About
A daily routine is established early in our young toddler classroom. Consistency and predictability give young toddlers a sense of safety and control. In this context, young toddlers are best able to learn to handle unpredictable changes, strong emotions and conflicts.

The young toddler classroom routine consists of structured and unstructured (free play) activities, which are equally important to each toddler’s development!

Caregivers encourage social and emotional skills throughout the day by assisting each child in recognizing how they are feeling in different situations, and teaching them the words to describe those emotions.

When conflicts arise, caregivers teach the young toddlers problem solving skills. Social skills and positive relationships are constantly being shaped during play and structured learning activities.

        About
Fine and gross motor skills are also a priority. Parts of the classroom routine are dedicated to arts and crafts, sensory play, as well as running, jumping, and climbing.

Early literacy skills are encouraged through exercising the alphabet, reading short stories, singing songs, sign language, and discussions.

Of course, unstructured play time is also an essential part of the young toddlers day! During play, toddlers get to practice all they have learned and observed. Playing promotes learning, creativity and provides opportunities to build on social-emotional and problem solving skills.
